Thailand’s newest and tallest skyscraper boasts digitally inspired design

From the New York website: The MahaNakhon tower was just completed in Bangkok’s financial district. It rises to more than 1,030 feet and is now the tallest building in the country. But more than height, it’s the tower’s striking architecture that is turning heads.

The tower was designed by Ole Scheeren, formerly a partner at OMA, according to Curbed. It was designed to look like it was made from thousands of individual cubes – almost like a skyscraper built from Legos or in the game Minecraft.
Scheeren has said that he hopes the design will challenge the more typical monolith-style of many contemporary towers and create “the visual effect of disintegration,” according to Curbed.

The 1.6 million-square-foot building will house Ritz-Carlton-branded apartments, selling for millions of dollars each. It cost roughly $620 million.
